Generally, Iron is a least reactive metal and therefore is extracted through reduction process in the blast furnace. The raw materials for the extraction of iron are coke, limestone and Iron (III) Oxide. Carbon (II) Oxide is the main reducing agent in the extraction since it has a large surface area in contact with the iron (III) Oxide compared to coke.
