Waves exhibit various properties which can conveniently be demonstrated by using a ripple tank.The ripple tank consists of a transparent tray containing water, a point source of light, a white screen placed underneath and small electric motor(refer to image above on introduction_the ripple tank.)
The waves are ripples travelling across the surface of shallow water in the tray and are produced by small electric motor. The wave pattern is represented by wavefront line that connect all points that are in phase as the wave moves along.
It follows that,the distance between succesive wavefronts is equal to to one wavelenght.
