INTRODUCTION

You may have observed a person kicking a ball in the field, a group of people participating in a tug of war, a construction worker lifting or trolling a stone, people pushing a stuck vehicle in mud. All these activities below involve pushing or pulling as shown below.

A push or a pull is called a force. The SI unit of force is the newton(N) -attributed to Sir Isaac Newton who did extensive study on Force.

Force acts in a particular direction and has magnitude. Thus is represented by a line with an arrow showing the direction in which it acts.
