Introduction

When matter is heated, it expands (and becomes less dense) and when cooled, it contracts( making it more dense).

Water behaves quite differently.  This is called Anomalous or abnormal behaviour . How?

Anomalous expansion of water is an abnormal property of water.  It occurs only  between 4°C to 0°C whereby it expands  when cooled, and contracts when heated...! Thats amazing!
