FUNCTIONS OF IEBC

§  To supervise and conduct referenda as well as elections to any elective office that is established by the Constitution.

§  It carries out any other elections as prescribed by an Act of Parliament.

§  It  ensures continuous registration of the Kenyan Citizens as voters.

§  It keeps on revising the voters’ roll.

§  It is responsible for delimitating constituencies as well as wards.

§  It regulates the modes used by different political parties to nominate their candidates for any election.

§  It settles all Electoral disputes with an exemption of the cases of electoral petitions or any case that comes up after the declaration of the results of any election.

§  It looks into the registration of all candidates vying for any electoral position in any election.

§  It carries out voter education.

§  It observes, evaluates and monitors all elections.

§  It regulates the amount spent on elections by a party or an individual.

§  It ensures that individuals and political parties develop code of ethics and conduct.

§  It looks into compliance with legislation when dealing with the nomination of candidates.
