RIVER PROCES.
As river flow along its cause it undertakes 3 main process which together helps to shape the river channel and the surrounding valley. These three processes are erosion, transport and deposition.
Types of River Erosion process
- Solution (corrosion): dissolution of materials from the channel
- Attrition: collision of load in transit and against the sides and bed.
- Hydraulic action: -“Removing and dragging rocks from the bed and banks.
- Corrosion (abrasion) eroding of the channel by the scooting material.
- FACTORS AFFECTING THE RATE OF RIVER EROSION.
- Speed of river (velocity).
- Volume of river.
- Nature of the bedrock.
- Nature and amount of the load.
- TYPES OF RIVER EROSION.
- Head ward erosion. When the river cuts back the upstream of the valley.
- Vertical erosion. Down cutting of the river channel
