Reading Activity

There are several stylistic devices used most in a literary work. Most of which are learnt before, especially in the study of poetry, oral literature and literature set texts.one of these are juxtaposition, oxymoron, hyperbole, sarcasm, satire, irony, humour etc. In this lesson,however,we shall focus on Sarcasm and Satire.

Definition of terms:

Sarcasm is a statement that sounds like the direct opposite of what it means usually intended to ridicule,hurt or criticize or tease.It is also the use of bitter or wounding especially ironic remarks.

Satire is a technique of writing used to ridicule foolish or wicked behavior,an idea or an institution.It is achieved through humour,irony,sarcsm,hyperbole to expose folly or vice of an individual.It targets social,political and moral ills.
