Sub-topic: | Irony |
Rationale: | Language can be used in two different levels: the literal and figurative level. Unless a literature lover becomes aware of these levels of language use, they will not fully appreciate the sweetness of literature. We always read journals that criticize the government. But, at times, the writers of these articles may decide to applaude the rotten institutions of the government yet you will sense the praise is not genuine. Readers should, therefore, know that writers may decide to criticize different quarters by showering them with praises. This is irony. A figure of speech we always use in our everyday speech to mean the opposite of what we say. |
