At the end of meiosis, four daughter cells are formed from every parent cell that divides. The daughter cells are haploid, for this reason, meiosis is referred to as a reduction division as mentioned before, meiosis occurs during the formation of gametes, that is the sperm and the ovum, in those organisms that reproduce sexually. Each gamete receives one chromosome of each homologous pair. So the homologous chromosomes are randomly segregated at prophase I of meiosis.
