Introduction

Latitudes and longitudes are imaginary lines that help you label every place on the surface of the earth. The most important line of latitude is the equator, which runs horizontally around the fattest part of the earth.

(1) All lines of latitude measure either north or south from the 0-degree line of latitude (the equator).

(2) The lines of longitude measure either east or west from the 0-degree line of longitude (the Prime Meridian).
