1. SUCCULENT FRUIT

fruit with a fleshy structure which is often good to eat. In many such as peach, plum, cherry and apricot, which are all DRUPES,

the PERICARP contains a fleshy mesocarp, while the apple and the strawberry are false fruits(POMES) with a swollen flower receptacle.

Succulent Fruit are divided into two

a.Berry

b.Drupe

a.  BERRY

Berry  is a small, pulpy, and often edible fruit.Typically, berries are juicy, rounded, brightly colored, sweet or sour, and do not have a stone or pit, although many pips or seeds may be present.

Common examples are :

  • strawberries
  • raspberries
  • blueberries
  • blackberries
  • red currants,
  • white currants
  • blackcurrants
  • Tomatoes
  • Oranges

 b. DRUPE

In botany, a drupe (or stone fruit) is an indehiscent fruit in which an outer fleshy part (exocarp, or skin; and mesocarp, or flesh) surrounds a single shell (the pit, stone, or pyrene) of hardened endocarp with a seed (kernel) inside.

They may be either true or accessory fruits.Dry Fruits: - Fruits in which the coat becomes dry at maturity.

Dry fruits are divided into two

a. Dehiscent

b.Indehiscent

A. DEHISCENT FRUITS

Dehiscent fruits are fruits that opens to release their seeds during maturity

Dehiscent fruits are divided into three

  • Schizocap eg Casteroil
  • Legumes eg Bean
  • Capsules eg Poppy

B. INDEHISCENT FRUIT

indehiscent applies to fruits  that do not open to release their seeds

  • Nuts eg Ground nuts
  • Caryopsis eg maize
  • Cypsela eg Biden pilosa
