- Charge on a body arises when two bodies are rubbed against each other.
- When two materials are rubbed one of the material transfers electrons to the other
- The material gaining electrons acquires a negative charge
- Polythene and common plastics always gain electrons thus will acquire negative charge.
- The material loosing electrons acquires a positive charge.
- Glass and acetate will always loose electrons when rubbed thus acquire positive charge.
- Materials that allow charge to flow through them are known as conductors
- Materials which do not allow charge to flow through them are known as insulators
